"Is Bama dead?" And other Week 3 reactions
Colorado and Colorado State played one of their most dramatic rivalry games yet, Alabama is in terrible shape, and the Gators are lurking.
So Week 3 proved to be pretty wild in college football.
This is normal, I expected as much and almost did a section in the Friday watch column on games that could end up being crazier than expected. It wouldn’t have been very good though, that’s the point with these lull weeks in college football. I would have been spitballing.
It’s hard to know which groups of 18-24 year olds are going to play out of character in either a positive or negative direction to create the conditions for an unexpectedly exciting game. The new rules for the clock also have an impact. Wyoming was able to translate some good fundamentals and sloppy Texas offense into a 10-10 game at night in Austin going into the 4th quarter. The Cowboys of Laramie had a 10-minute drive involving 17 plays which fizzled in the red zone and only yielded three points but essentially drained the entire 3rd quarter. Then the Longhorns flipped the switch and blew it open to 31-10 in a matter of minutes.
It’s still college football, things change like the weather.
I have some big picture thoughts from that particular game on offensive style evolutions we’ll get to later in the week, but for now let’s talk particulars on events around the league.
