I thought I had Michigan and Ohio State pretty well pegged for most of the season and it would appear I did. As I noted in a long preview of their big battle:
Ohio State’s athletes give them a good chance in this game. Michigan made their superior brute qualities count last year because of their athleticism in the space force and they’re still very formidable there. Ultimately I think they’re a smarter and tougher team than Ohio State and that’s what will matter in this battle.
We’ll see how things go, it should be a closer matchup than last year. The next big question is whether the losing team still has a case for inclusion in the playoffs.
The quotes from the Buckeye side of things after this game were pretty fascinating. There was a lot of talk about how hard they prepared to avenge 2021.
Then they got whipped even worse than a year ago, at home, with Michigan’s star running back unable to do much but cheer from the sideline. The barbs of the “3rd base Day” arrow Jim Harbaugh shot their way obviously sunk in and their program is now experiencing a traumatic shock. Since I foresaw them folding like a lawn chair against Michigan’s physicality, I also have some tips for their recovery we’ll get back to later.
Other interesting outcomes of the weekend included Mack Brown’s UNC losing a rivalry game to a tougher opponent despite fielding a transcendent quarterback (tale as old as time), LSU blowing any playoff hopes, Clemson blowing any playoff hopes, and a flurry of coaching changes.
We’ll get to the coaching changes later this week, for today we’ll focus on the game results.
