Who won Week 12 in College Football?
USC wins a wild shootout in LA while Michigan and Ohio State barely hung on as they both looked ahead to "the game."
Close call this last Saturday.
Michigan went on a 10-play drive tied with Bret Bielema’s Illinois 10-10 late in the third quarter and finished the drive with an incomplete pass on 4th-and-6. The Illini then drove the field in three plays and took a 17-10 lead.
Michigan responded with…a 3’n’out.
Yikes.
And Blake Corum was out of the game after hitting his knee. Double yikes.
What happened from there was a Michigan defense I predicted would be much better than anticipated despite losing Aidan Hutchinson and David Ojabo forcing a bunch of punts to enable the Wolverines to launch THREE different fourth quarter drives which ended in field goals to enable a 19-17 win.
Almost lost some stakes in “the game” coming up this next Saturday.
Next it was Ohio State’s turn to demonstrate they’d probably spent the previous week looking ahead. The Buckeyes also had some running back injury issues and Taulia Tagovailoa hit a few throws to make the game 33-30 Ohio State. The next Buckeye drive ended with a 4th down incompletion and the Terrapins had their chance to blow the stakes of “the game.” No good, Ohio State got a stop and freshman Buckeye back Dallas Hayden helped them launch a clock-killing field goal drive. Finally Tagovailoa was stripped when trying to execute a 1-minute drill for a touchdown and tOSU linebacker Steele Chambers caught the ball basically in the end zone for a score.
Both Ohio State and Michigan will now face off in Columbus next Saturday undefeated, probably ranked no. 2 and no. 3 in the playoff rankings, and each with some health concerns at running back. Can’t wait.
We’ll go deep into that game later this week though, let’s talk about some other interesting stuff from the weekend.
