Turmoil and uncertainty in Liberty Hill
Flag football ended the year winless but there was bigger news in Liberty Hill football.
We’ll get back to some post-spring breakdowns soon, I’ve been trying to get a grip on how Nebraska and USC may fare in the Big 10 this season and have been considering Auburn as a potential breakout team since my Inside Texas colleague Paul Wadlington noted the possibility.
There’s a few more local things I think are interesting though.
Let’s get this out of the way first, Team Knuckles lost their last game of the season last night. We won our practice game 21-6 against a team that ended up playing for the Championship and lost all six subsequent actual games. Pretty remarkable and fairly deflating. I was optimistic we would fare better after narrowly losing our first consolation playoff game 24-19, finding out my son was a solid quarterback, and then drawing a team I was optimistic wouldn’t have a Tecmo Bowl Bo to roast us with. That didn’t work out.
Additionally, local 5A powerhouse Liberty Hill saw their head coach Kent Walker resign after spring practices had already concluded to go accept the same job at Blanco HS, a 3A school in the Hill Country. There’s a lot to that story as well.
