The Week 7 watch
The conference schedule is heating up and teams who have coasted through the early season are facing off with undefeated records on the line.
Week 7 is going to be the most consequential game yet for the 2022 college football season. There are a number of only somewhat tested teams who will face real competition this week, several undefeateds face other undefeated squads, and there are some good tests for teams with apparent playoff hopes.
I’m not going to talk much about the Auburn game but the Tigers are facing Lane Kiffin’s undefeated Ole Miss Rebels. The entree of Auburn into the Matt Rhule sweepstakes has yet to official occur and recently SEC writer Barrett Sallee was on Twitter making the case for Hugh Freeze to join War Eagle.
Sallee is doing the work of Auburn boosters here, “we promise to be on our best behavior! The “you know, Rhule could just sit out a year” notion has been floated and I’m sure it’s from Rhule’s agent to help create leverage in lieu of having multiple open jobs to do that work for him.
Also, yeah, Freeze would be a terrific fit at Auburn. He was a great fit at Ole Miss, that’s not why he had to leave. This smells like Auburn seeking leverage in any negotiations with Rhule.
Here are the big games in Week 7 I’m particularly curious to see unfold…
