The week 4 watch
Brent Venables faces the Veer and Shoot, a Rose Bowl-ish Michigan vs USC game, and yours truly picks up the call sheet.
We’re approaching a big weekend of football.
There are many angles at play in Tennessee’s trip to Oklahoma. These are natural rivals really and they also both happen to be running the Veer and Shoot offense and are both coached by talented former coordinators of the Sooner program who were jettisoned to protect Bob Stoops’ brother Mike. Incidentally, Bob made himself unavailable for comment this week.
What’s normally a Rose Bowl treat is coming our way in USC vs Michigan, which is going to be pretty indicative for both teams, one would think.
Most importantly we’re also going to see how things go for my first game as a flag football coach. Since the first practice takes place an hour before the first game…there’s a lot I don’t know about what the team and what to expect. I’ve been drilling some things with my son and have decided that receiving a snap and quickly making an accurate throw under pressure is rather difficult. Probably I’ll be stealing a shovel pass play that one of my beloved readers here at America’s War Game sent me.
I did just get an email that the week 1 game of my flag football team’s season is just a practice game and won’t count toward the playoffs. That’s helpful. These other teams won’t be so lucky:
