Teams regularly schedule their big contest for Week 2. The opener is often a glorified scrimmage for teams who are just looking to stress test different dimensions of their team in a live game against an opponent who won’t defend or attack them with a known script and gameplan.
There’s always the marquee opening matchups for TV but most teams prefer to get the big draw game in Week 2. Such is the case for a number of squads this season, including a few teams who have big home/away series taking place.
As I noted on Wednesday, there’s a few big games for 2010s powers who are trying to transition or survive into new decades such as Oklahoma and Alabama, big games for teams hoping to take over in the new decade like Texas, USC, and Oregon, and there’s this Nebraska at Colorado game millions of people will watch at high noon.
