The playoff field is set
After Championship Week we now have our four teams. How'd we get here and was it fair? (it wasn't)
At last the final field is set. After weeks of consternation over the weekly rankings from us goldfish-memory sports fans and commentariat, the final rankings were actually pretty obvious and presented in the expected fashion.
Michigan (13-0, Big 10 Champions)
Washington (13-0, Pac-12 Champions)
Texas (12-1, Big 12 Champions)
Alabama (12-1, SEC Champions
Florida State (13-0, ACC Champions)
Georgia (12-1, SEC runner-ups)
Ohio State (11-1, that’s it)
Oregon (11-2, Pac-12 runner-ups)
It’s amusing to note how drastically the Championship Games changed the rankings from the prior, unofficial rankings. They were…
Georgia
Michigan
Washington
Florida State
Oregon
Ohio State
Texas
Alabama
Texas fans were really sweating it out even though they clearly had multiple paths to reach the top, and even lowly Alabama had an obvious solution to their lower ranking. Just go through the repeat Bulldogs.
Obviously the big story is an undefeated, Power-5 Champion being left out. We’ll get into that after the jump.
