The heavyweight bout: Washington's offense vs Michigan's defense
Perhaps the best defense in college football now faces the best offense for the 2023 National Championship. Who will win that exchange?
Of all the most interesting possible matchups we could have had in the National Championship, truly the most interesting is this Washington offense going up against the Michigan defense.
The Wolverines played outstanding defense all year, albeit against weak competition, before proving their mettle against Penn State, Ohio State, and finally Alabama in the semi-final. Washington torched everyone, most recently Texas, despite star slot Jalen McMillan missing much of the year and quarterback Michael Penix, Jr rumored to have been battling a broken rib during much of the season. Suddenly those late season lines where Oregon State and Oregon were heavily favored over the Huskies make more sense.
The best part of this matchup is that the Huskies are a dominant spread passing team while the Wolverines aren’t just a good college defense but a uniquely great pass defense.
Here’s a profile of these two respective units.
So who wins this matchup?
