Spring football roundups: Nick Saban's next quarterback
There's some drama and intrigue in Tuscaloosa around what's next at quarterback for the Crimson Tide.
Alabama football recently had an interesting incident during their spring camp.
If you click on the link you’ll see Milroe is responding to Alabama’s official football account posting a video of Ja’Corey Brooks beating Kook-Aid McKinstry on a nicely thrown fade ball into the corner of the end zone in a passing drill.
After Milroe responded publicly to make sure everyone knew who actually threw the ball, the Alabama interwebs blew up with “Milroe might have this!” storylines.
The common assumption among many Alabama folk has been that former 5-star Ty Simpson would be the one to replace Bryce Young as the Alabama quarterback, so now there’s some serious intrigue and question.
The whole twitter incident was even a little suspicious. It could all have been one of two things:
Alabama wanting to astro-turf a popular narrative around Milroe to slowly letdown fans who were expecting Simpson to run the show.
Alabama website simply seizing the opportunity for clickbait stories selling a true quarterback battle and program drama.
I’ve never really shared the confidence Simpson was a shoo-in to win. However, a move from Bill O’Brien and Bryce Young to Tommy Rees and Milroe could be a major shift for Saban’s offensive progrum.
