Spring check-ins: Notre Dame's new Carr
Notre Dame is making the dreaded switch from proven transfer quarterback to up and coming young blue chip. Can they pull it off?
I was shaking my head early on when Tennessee followed up their success plugging in undesired transfers like Hendon Hooker and Joe Milton to their Veer and Shoot offense only to pivot once they could get a 5-star out of high school.
Well after successive years of simply poaching the best transfer from the ACC (Sam Hartman, Riley Leonard), Notre Dame has now instead been seduced by the allure of playing a young blue chip of their own. Lloyd Carr’s grandson, no less, CJ Carr, who hails from Saline, MI a nice upscale suburb just outside of Ann Arbor (home to the University of Michigan).
For whatever reason, Carr decided to attend rival Notre Dame rather than his grandpa’s beloved Michigan which he was surely raised to follow and support growing up within an easy 20 minute drive.
At the conclusion of this spring, Notre Dame neglected once again to take a transfer and also saw their more veteran back-up Steve Angeli (4th year player in 2025) transfer out to the ACC (Syracuse). So it’s the CJ Carr show in South Bend and the redshirt freshman will be handed the keys to a team with National Championship aspirations.
How’s that going to go? Well, you know the drill…
