Spring check-ins: Can LSU solve the underlying issues?
LSU needs to overcome three classic War Game dilemmas in order to seriously contend in 2025.
For the fourth year, or 3rd offseason in a row, it’s hard to talk about the upcoming LSU season without mentioning the questions about Harold Perkins, Jr.
I’ve written extensively on the dilemma LSU has found in maximizing the former 5-star athlete and it sounds like they’re still working out the right answers to that problem.
It’s not the only issue confronting LSU. The Tigers also have been wrestling with the classic issue of how to find stud D-tackles to clog the interior and help them control the trenches in a league known for physical play up front. Normally this isn’t that tough for LSU but they got in a hole for a few years due to missed evaluations and it’s been a struggle to climb back out. The LSU NIL game has been strong but not strong enough to match an Oregon or Miami on bids for the top D-tackles in the portal.
Finally, LSU has a pocket quarterback in Garrett Nussmeier who should be poised for a huge season…but he needs a blocking tight end to help him and his 2024 partner Mason Taylor just went in the 2nd round of the NFL Draft.
Are there answers in Baton Rouge for these dilemmas?
