Spread 401: When there's no space to spread
The red zone, short-yardage, and goal-line scenarios can be kryptonite for spread tactics. Why? There's no more space to spread defenders out in.
Today I’ve decided to work toward resolution our spread educational series, which is also adding some videos on YouTube with the Inside Texas football channel. I’m not ready to talk about the latest flag football game, gonna need to stew on that one and maybe we’ll revisit on Friday before the next game.
Anyways, in terms of our spread offensive education, here’s where things stand so far:
Spread 101: You spread out the defense to hammer them inside
Spread 201: Your quarterback chooses the tight end
Spread 301: The supremacy of the outside receiver
If you’re a non-paying subscriber, those videos are actually free and you get to watch me explain all of this while questioned by Mr. LC.
Today we’ll talk spread 401, the last course before we get to the graduate work of spread 501 where I’ll actually deliver on the teaser I gave at the end of spread 101 about what would come next in the series. Before we get to the evolution of spread tactics in 501, we need to finish off the last part of undergraduate spread studies and talk about how spread teams can score on the goal line.
