Running the Veer and Shoot in flag football
It’s time for another season of 3rd/4th grade I9 flag football and I’ve got some new ideas…
Not long after the end of the spring flag football season, in which I coached my son and nine other kids through a season in which we went “defeated” and lost every game except the opening practice game that doesn’t count in the standings, I wrote up a full opus of tactics.
It felt like we learned a ton as a result of that terrible season and I had all kinds of ideas on how to improve upon the results. You may wonder why I had any confidence to think I could ever coach kids to success again, but things did get easier at the end of the season when I realized my kid could play quarterback. That opened up a lot of possibilities.
But then I shelved all those ideas and didn’t think about flag football for a while…until recently. Now it’s time for the next season and I’ve got all kinds of ideas, many of them different from my initial takeaways after the season.
I’ve decided it’s time to fully unleash the principles of the Veer and Shoot upon the I9 flag football league.
