My flag football team needs to come out of the tomb after this bye week and start producing during this final stretch of the year. In particular, we need more answers for how to score on offense.

The old adage for the Air Raid, as it was practiced by Hal Mumme and his assistant Mike Leach, was to “throw the ball short as many times as possible to people who can score.”

We have since learned that Leach had another idea involving throwing short and scoring…

It hasn’t quite come to that for my flag football team but I’ll admit, throwing some of these kids across the goal line has been tempting a time or two.

In general, I’d say that the winning move in our league is to run the ball with misdirection to people who can score. You want to launch kids into space quickly and efficiently without resorting to Leach’s proposed methods.

We have one way to do that which really works in the unbalanced sweep…until the other team adjusts. This is where I brainstorm solutions in hopes of finishing this year 3-3 (4-3 with the practice win!) so we can at least avoid “loser” status on the year.
