Is Brock Bowers the steal of the draft?
Georgia's star tight end is typically mocked to the middle of the first round...is that too low?
The 2023 season was Brock Bowers’ worst as a Georgia Bulldog. The Dawg tight end played just three seasons in Athens and won two National Championships in his first two years before falling short of that mark in year three while missing multiple games with an ankle injury.
Here’s what he did in those three years at Georgia:
2021: 56 catches for 582 yards and 13 touchdowns. Four carries for 56 yards and one rushing touchdown.
2022: 63 catches for 942 yards and seven touchdowns. Nine carries for 109 yards and three rushing touchdowns.
2023: 56 catches for 714 yards and six touchdowns. Six carries for 28 yards and one rushing touchdown.
For a receiver those would be normal, modest numbers but Bowers produced them while playing as a real tight end who’d routinely hang around in the box to block or run option routes during the 35-40 runs Georgia would call every game.
He showed up at the combine and checked in at 6-foot-3, 243 pounds but abstained from doing any tests or drills at either the combine or Georgia’s pro day due to nagging injuries he’s looking to clear before the season. A high school combine measured him running a 4.55 40 while 215 pounds and clearing 40” in the vertical. That was a while ago now but so we can’t know for sure but I don’t think many people doubt his athleticism due to three years of film we have where he’s running circles around people.
He’s currently projected to go somewhere in the middle of the first round. What do we think of that? That’s fairly high for a tight end…but I tend to think it’s not high enough.
