I was working up a column on the fantastical and legendary Jacksonville Jaguar comeback victory over the LA Chargers when I got some bad news from the home front.
My dad is pretty ill, currently in a hospital in the Austin area, and I’m flying out early in the morning to come help the family and see him.
So while normally there’d be something in your inbox with some thoughts about tempo spread offense at the NFL level, I am currently pausing things to make sure everything is in order.
It’s possible I’ll make up up for it while sitting in a hospital room with little to do but stress and worry or distract myself with abstract notes on the game of football. Or I may be limited for a spell, I’ll keep everyone posted and make adjustments as needed to paying subscription rates if I’m not delivering on the normal level of content.
Everyone be safe and healthy and don’t neglect your spiritual health or the important relationships in your life. If you didn’t see it the first time, here’s something I wrote late last year on the passing of my friend Jonathan Tjarks.
You’ll hear again from me soon, writing is cathartic in times of stress, hopefully I’ll have good news to share as well. Either way, I’ll have stored up some unfinished notes on the aforementioned Jaguars game as well as notes about offseason happenings at Wisconsin, TCU, and Clemson.
Prayer for your family. My elderly Dad is my best friend nowadays. I wish he liked football; but we instead talk about history and warfare. He got me into it with a globe and WW2 docs he was always watching.
I lost my mom 10-30-21. She was my best friend and sports watching companion. It still rocks me to my core almost weekly or randomly when I’m watching a game all alone. Take all the time you need. True Prayers and good vibes for your pops man
