Coaching decisions define Week 7
A huge week in college football with another big one looming in Week 8.
That was a pretty big week in college football.
I think the 2024 Red River Shootout has begun to cement not only for football fans across the country but commentators north of the Red River the current state of the rivalry. Oklahoma had a solid day of defense, belied by Texas’ 34 points, but their defensive gameplan was really a bit iffy and their offense achieved a level of putridity that had older Sooner commentators like Carey Murdock hearkening back to the John Blake days.
My pals on the Sooner Scoop post game podcast were considering whether the writing truly was on the wall for the Brent Venables era and if it’s possible he can do enough in the transfer portal and hiring a new offensive coordinator in December to salvage the overall project.
Then there were the evening primetime battles between LSU and Ole Miss and Oregon and Ohio State. The Tiger defense showed a marked resiliency against the Rebel spread offense sans Harold Perkins (hmmm) while the game in Eugene featured some fascinating late game decision-making between Ryan Day and Dan Lanning.
My flag football team “The Ender Dragon” had a wild finish to our big game as well. We really needed this one to get into the winner’s playoff bracket at the end of the season. Did we get it? I’ll have to share on that in a separate post or this thing will get too long.
